The strength of the school bus fleet of Mowasalat, the government run transport company, has reached almost 2,300, with launch of 150 new buses at the Karwa Training Centre at Abu Hamour.
At least 73 people were killed on Sunday when two passenger buses and an oil tanker burst into flames in a head-on collision in eastern Afghanistan, in one of the worst road accidents in the war-battered nation.
As the weather gets hotter in the country, some transport contractors are busy installing air-conditioners (ACs) in buses that are used to ferry workers, it is learnt.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications has extended the contract of Mowasalat to operate the West Bay Shuttle buses for one more year. The ministry is planning to make it a paid service from April 1.
