An Egyptian man who hijacked a plane and forced it to be diverted to Cyprus did so to draw attention to injustices in his homeland, his lawyer said on Monday.
The man accused of hijacking an EgyptAir plane and forcing it to land in Cyprus was remanded into police custody for eight days during his first court appearance on Wednesday.
An EgyptAir plane flying from Alexandria to Cairo was hijacked and forced to land in Cyprus but the passengers and crew were freed unharmed and the hijacker was arrested after giving himself up.
