Low oil prices have dampened remittances from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) but Qatar has defied the trend with a 22% month-on-month growth in September this year and it is the best performing GCC country for Xpress Money, a global money transfer service provider.
Xpress Money recorded a 15% spike in remittances from Qatar during Eid al-Adha, an official said.
Qatar accounted for more than $10.4bn in remittances to countries across the globe in 2015, with South Asian countries receiving 70% of remittances from the country, Xpress Money said.
