Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) defied the overall bullish trend in the Gulf equity markets as it closed in the negative with midcap equities bearing the brunt most during the week.
Trade turnover and volumes were on the decline in the Qatar Stock Exchange but overall its key index added another 33 points for the second day to inch near the 9,800 mark, mainly on domestic institutions’ buying support.
Reversing the five-day bearish spell, Qatar Stock Exchange on Wednesday gained 62 points to cross the 9,700 mark, mainly lifted by strong buying interests of non-Qatari individuals and Gulf institutions.
Vodafone Qatar’s deletion from the MSCI emerging market index had a profound effect on the Qatar Stock Exchange, which on Tuesday fell for the fifth consecutive day by 65 points to settle below the 9,700 mark.
Bearish sentiments continued to haunt the Qatar Stock Exchange on Monday for the fourth straight session and its key index lost a sizeable 127 points to settle below the 9,800 mark. More than 92% of the traded stocks were in the red.

The Qatar Stock Exchange saw gains in about 67% of the traded stocks, mostly small and midcaps with Islamic equities outshining, but overall its key barometer largely remained flat.
About 93% of the stocks were in the red, capitalisation eroded more than QR22bn and the main index plunged 415 points, sum up the performance of the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE), which was the worst performer among the Gulf bourses during the week.
