The Rayyan Security Department (RSD) has decided to register all crimes mentioning the nationality of the perpetrator to boost its awareness efforts against violations, a senior security official has told local Arabic daily Arraya.
Brigadier Khalifa Abdulla al-Nuaimi, director, RSD, said that such records help in guiding the awareness efforts, for when the rate of certain type of crime increases within a certain community, the efforts would be focused on that community members to advise them on the involved consequences of violation of law.
“We draw their attention to the penalties for such crimes. Eventually we have achieved great results in this respect for though the number of population is on the rise, the number of crimes is declining,” he said.
However, the weak infrastructure of Industrial Area hampers the security efforts there, he added.
“For example, we face difficulties in reaching to the reported locations because many streets have no names. Were it not for the experience of the department personnel, this issue would have caused us serious trouble,” he said, indicating that the absence of maintenance and the density of population led to its facilities deteriorate considerably.
Brigadier al-Nuaimi said that there is a committee tasked with registering the number of workshops at Industrial Area and the number of people working there. The committee includes members from the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, Ashghal, and the Ministry of Interior. The aim of the committee is to help in re-planning the area and work is going on in this respect.
“We have intensified security patrols in the area with the help of related entities to spot various violations, especially those related to expatriate residency law. This reflected on the decrease in crime rates after only three month of conducting such campaigns,” said Brigadier al-Nuaimi.
Most crimes that take place in the RSD zone are vehicle theft and burglary, besides sporadic cases of counterfeit crime.
The RSD director attributed most theft cases to the negligence of the victims and too much trust on domestic workers. Regarding the incidents of car theft in the area, he said that some people leave their cars at the garage there for repair thinking that the process may take less than one day but the process may extend for several days.
“Hence, the car is left outside the garage making it easy prey for thief, who may steal it as a whole or just take the things put inside it,” he said, advising garage operators to keep the cars entrusted to them inside their workshops.
The RSD currently includes two police stations - Al Rayyan and Industrial Area.
Brigadier al-Nuaimi said the department plans to open two more police stations at Azizyiah and Gharrafa to make related services more accessible to the public.
