Doha-based hotelier Rajan M has won the Business Excellency award instituted by P A Backer Memorial Foundation in Kerala.
The award comprises a plaque and a cash prize of Rs50,000.
The foundation is named after Backer, an acclaimed Malayalam film director of the 1970s and 1980s.
Rajan, the managing director of the Horizon Group of Hotels, is a leading filmmaker too. His films include Vaddukannathan, Nasraani and Orma Mathram, starring Mohanlal, Mammutty and Dileep respectively, all south Indian superstars.
Shooting of his next film, starring Mammutty, starts next month. It is being directed by S T Suresh Babu and the script written is by Rafi Macartin.
Rajan, who has won honorus like the Quality Crown for the Best Businessman from a London organisation, Expatriate Business Distinction (Pravasi Business Prathibha) from the Indian president, Incas Pravasi Award and the Raja Mudra decoration from the Travancore Maharaja, runs a chain of hotels in Qatar, Bahrain, Sudan and India.
Along with Rajan, the Backer Foundation also decided to give the Best Film Director award to Priyadarshan, Service Excellence (Sevena Sreshta) award to Bobby Chemmannur and Family Welfare award for Dr Jeseena Merchant.
The awards will be presented by Kerala state minister K B Ganesh Kumar at a function on January 21.
