The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Ministry of Interior has arrested a man who was involved in a spate of thefts across the country and recovered QR150,000 from his possession.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Interior’s Public Relations Department said the Asian male “specialised” in robbing people who withdrew money from banks and ATMs.
The arrest followed several complaints from the public, the statement said. “Subsequently, the CID formed a special team to catch the culprit.”
The team was successful in catching the thief red-handed.
According to the police, the man used to follow people as soon as they left the banks or ATM counters and robbed them when they parked their vehicles somewhere on their way home. He used to break the glass of the parked vehicles to gain access to the valuables.
“During investigations, the man confessed to stealing money from a number of citizens and residents and the CID seized QR150,000 from his possession,” the statement said.
The arrested man has been transferred to the Capital Security Department for completing the legal procedures.
