Album launch event raises QR100,000 for cancer research

Doha Jazz recently launched its new album, Blues on the Corniche, at an event that attracted people from all walks of life and raised QR100,000 for cancer research.
The money was donated by Commercialbank, the main sponsor of the initiative, and Doha Jazz to the renowned charity, Cancer Research UK.
Commercialbank had teamed up with W Doha Hotel & Residences to co-sponsor the charitable event.
Dean Proctor, EGM, head of retail and consumer banking at Commercialbank, said: “As we are passionate about the promotion of health and well-being, we were honoured to be asked to take part in the initiative by Doha Jazz to increase breast cancer awareness and raise money for research into the disease. The evening featured music from a cross-section of jazz styles in a great ambience.”
Chris Coull, founder of Doha Jazz and co-producer of Blues on the Corniche, said: “Thanks to the generosity of Commercialbank, we were able to complete a product of the highest standard, which, in turn, raised a significant sum of money for cancer research and promoted Qatar’s musical and artistic growth.”
Straight-up jazz classics mixed with Arabesque tracks, Rhythm & Blues grooves and lush orchestral arrangements (courtesy of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra) create a diverse and engaging album that thrills the listener throughout.
Coull has been living in Qatar since 2001. When his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, he was determined to create more awareness, encourage more women - both in Qatar and abroad - to be screened for the disease and raise money to fund further research.
