John Jaso belted a pinch-hit, three-run homer and Brandon Moss added a two-run shot later in the seventh inning as visiting Oakland overcame two defensive lapses to down Los Angeles for their sixth straight victory.

Coco Crisp finished 2-for-5 and homered for a career-high fourth consecutive game. Los Angeles trailed 4-2 entering the sixth, but plated three runs after Athletics right fielder Chris Young dropped Brendan Harris’ fly ball and later Albert Pujols reached on a fielding error from shortstop Jed Lowrie. But Oakland struck back when Crisp led off the seventh where Jaso hit a towering fly ball to right and Moss added his first homer of the season two batters later.

Yankees 14, Indians 1

Robinson Cano led an 18-hit assault with a 4-for-6 effort and five RBIs as visiting New York cruised past Cleveland for the second straight game. The outburst was more than enough for Andy Pettitte (2-0), who allowed five hits, including a solo homer to Asdrubal Cabrera, in seven innings.

Carlos Carrasco (0-1), making his first appearance since 2011 after injuries interrupted his six-game suspension for throwing at the head of Kansas City’s’ Billy Butler, was ejected on Tuesday after hitting Kevin Youkilis in the shoulder one pitch after Cano’s homer.

Nationals 8, White Sox 7

Adam LaRoche broke out of a slump with a pair of home runs and Ian Desmond and Jayson Werth also went deep as hosts Washington survived a late push from Chicago in the opener of a three-game series. Paul Konerko hit a three-run homer and finished with four RBIs for the White Sox, who had a two-game win streak snapped.  Washington led 8-5 in the ninth where Rafael Soriano gave up a two-run blast to Alex Rios but still earned his third save.

Rangers 6, Rays 1

Nick Tepesch pitched into the eighth inning in his major-league debut and Lance Berkman had three hits as visiting Texas made it two straight wins over Tampa Bay. The 24-year-old Tepesch, who earned the No. 5 spot in the rotation during spring training, allowed one run, four hits, walked three and struck out five in 7 1/3 innings. Berkman and Elvis Andrus drove in two runs apiece for Texas, who have won three in a row and six of their last seven.

Padres 9, Dodgers 3

Will Venable homered and drove in four runs as San Diego pulled away late in their home opener at remodeled Petco Park. With the score tied 3-3 in the seventh, Mark Kotsay doubled in the go-ahead run off Ronald Belisario before the Padres drew clear with five runs in the eighth. Venable highlighted the rally with a bases-loaded triple off JP Howell. Venable and Nick Hundley each hit solo homers off Dodgers starter Josh Beckett.

Phillies 8, Mets 3

Michael Young drove in three runs while falling a double short of the cycle and John Mayberry Jr also had three RBIs for host Philadelphia. Ryan Howard, Young and Mayberry hit their first home runs of the season in a five-pitch span of the third inning to give the Phillies a 7-0 lead. Philadelphia’s Cliff Lee (2-0) allowed two earned runs, eight hits and struck out six while not walking a batter in 8 2/3 innings.

Braves 3, Marlins 2

Rookie Evan Gattis hit a two-run homer, and Kris Medlen pitched seven strong innings as visiting Atlanta improved their major-league best record to 7-1. Atlanta have won five in a row and are 7-1 for the fourth time since 1994. Gattis staked the Braves to a 2-0 first-inning lead. Medlen (1-1) allowed just three hits and one unearned run.  The Marlins pulled within 3-2 in the eighth on Placido Polanco’s single but got no closer.

Tigers 7, Blue Jays 3

Reigning American League MVP Miguel Cabrera registered four hits and four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fourth inning that broke the game open, and Detroit held off Toronto. Torii Hunter contributed three hits, including the 2,000th of his career, and Alex Avila homered as the Tigers handed the Blue Jays their fifth loss in the first seven games. Anibal Sanchez (1-0) struck out eight, allowing five hits and two runs over seven innings to earn the victory.
