HH the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday attended the opening of the eighth International Chambers of Commerce World Chambers Congress.
The three-day event is hosted by Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
After the opening session, HH the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent inaugurated an exhibition held on the sidelines of the conference. He toured various pavilions.
In a video message, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon asked global business chambers to address poverty, hunger, illness and inequality as the world is fast approaching the 2015 deadline for Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
“We are fast approaching the 2015 deadline for achieving the MDGs. I urge business leaders to join me in the push to address poverty, hunger, illness and inequality. I also look to you for support as we move towards the post-2015 agenda,” he said.
“In these unpredictable times, we must help businesses respond to the challenges they face,” the UN secretary general said, adding businesses could make a major difference when they forge partnerships with governments and civil society.
The World Chambers Congress is being held in the Middle East for the first time and opened on a high note with the aim of building a stronger global chamber community, fostering economic development and prosperity.
The event assembles a global community of more than 12,000 chambers of commerce, their business members and influential world leaders. It provides an opportunity for interaction between delegates from more than 100 countries
