Qatar Charity (QC) has appointed two new humanitarian ambassadors - Sheikh Fahad Al-Salem al-Kandari, preacher and imam of the Grand Mosque in Kuwait and Malian football star Frederic Oumar Kanoute.
The ambassadors will help QC to promote its charitable projects through representing it in the various humanitarian campaigns, which cover education, health, water, fight against poverty, culture promotion and relief operations.
A partnership agreement was also signed by QC and the new ambassadors. The event was attended by Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, secretary general of the Qatar
Olympic Committee.
Al-Kandari is one of the prominent religious figures in Kuwait and one of the most expert reciters of the Qur’an in Kuwait and the Arabian Gulf.
Kanoute is a professional Malian footballer in Europe and was awarded ‘Best Player in Africa in 2008’. He enjoys a good reputation and has made significant contributions in the field of humanitarian and
charitable work.
Al-Kandari will join QC ambassadors such as Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman and the Qatari TV presenter Mohamed Saadoun al-Kuwari. He is also taking part in QC’s Stars campaign, aimed at strengthening the relationship between athletes and the community.
The project is being implemented under the slogan, “Together we promote giving”, and encourages community partnership in development projects, using well-known celebrities in the field of sports who have displayed considerable commitment and discipline both personally and professionally.
Other participating sports celebrities are: Hazem Emam, Ali al-Habsi, Khalfan Ibrahim Khalfan, Jarallah al-Marri, Abdul Aziz al-Sulaiti, Moataz Barsham, Firas al-Khatib, and Adel Lamy.
QC was founded in 1991 in order to contribute to the efforts of development and humanitarian work in the countries in which it operates with a focus on sustainable development, the fight against poverty and disaster relief in emergency situations.
QC has 16 offices worldwide and operates in over 50 countries around the world, with more than 160 field partners and has enjoyed membership of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations since 1997 and the Founding Conference of the Arab Network for NGOs in Cairo since 1999. It is also a member of several other influential networks.
