HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani has urged the Lebanese government to stop the intervention of Lebanese sides to the conflict in Syria.
“The Syrian regime would not have kept going with its bloody policy, and manoeuvering and stalling approach at complete ease in relation to any peaceful settlement for the conflict without the assistance and support it still receives from known regional and international forces,” Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim told the opening session of a meeting for the basic member states of the Friends of Syria group, adding that the clearest proof to this is “the intervention of Lebanon’s Hezbollah.”
Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim pointed to the Syrian regime’s use of chemical weapons, saying that it is “shocking” to hear the news and see the proof about the regime’s use of these weapons against its own people.
The Premier and Foreign Minister said: “No doubt you are following the development of the tragic events taking place in the Syrian arena. The bloodbath dictated by the regime is continuing; the number of deaths and innocent victims is increasing every day; and the large scale destruction has become an undeniable fact beside the humanitarian calamity that has befallen the Syrian people who have largely become either internally displaced or refugees in neighboring and other countries.
“All the Arab and international efforts to end the Syrian tragedy have failed, rendering the international community a helpless observer that cannot deal with the situation,” the Premier and Foreign Minister noted.
He added: “In fact, the regime would not have been able to easily carry on its bloody policy and stall all peaceful settlement of the conflict if it were not for the help and support provided to it by very well-known regional and international powers.
Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim  said that the most blunt example of that is the interference of Hezbollah of Lebanon, which imposes a huge responsibility on the Lebanese government to take appropriate action to stop any interference from Lebanon in the conflict raging in Syria.  “It is extremely horrifying to hear the news and see evidence about the regime’s unscrupulous use of chemical weapons against its own people,” he added.
The Premier and Foreign Minister underlined that the provision and use of arms might be the only way to achieve peace especially in the Syrian case. As such, moral support alone shall not be enough.
“We have to provide all kinds of support to the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces and the Supreme Military Council until they become capable of confronting the regime’s forces and the regional and international powers supporting it”, he said.
The Premier and Foreign Minister added that it is very important to make it clear to everyone that our call to provide support to the Syrian opposition and its military council springs from humanitarian objectives, as such support has become essential after the regime has ruined all the sincere efforts to bring about a peaceful solution.
