French team visits site of Lusail rail project

The French delegation with Qatar Rail officials during the visit.

A French delegation, including Transport Minister Frédéric Cuvillier and Foreign Trade Minister Nicole Bricq, has visited construction sites of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in Lusail.

The delegates were welcomed by Qatar Rail’s chief executive officer Saad al-Muhannadi, who briefed them on the progress of the project.

While the French delegates expressed their admiration of the project’s workflow in Lusail, al-Muhannadi said the LRT project was central to transport infrastructure development in Qatar.

“The Lusail project is in a very advanced stage with almost 100% of the tunnelling phase completed. Work on the stations have already reached the 50% mark,” the CEO said, adding that the LRT project in Lusail is on schedule and will be completed and handed over by 2016.

Qatar Rail signed a contract with QDVC in February 2012 that included engineering work on seven underground Metro stations, creation of a bridge over the highway between Doha and the northern parts of the country and preliminary work for the establishment of a special warehouse for Lusail rail as well as other maintenance workshops.
