HE the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak al-Kuwari issued a ministerial decision yesterday reforming the Shawwal and Ramadan Crescent Moon Sighting Committee.
The decision appointed Dr Thagil bin Sayer al-Shammari as chairman of the committee and Ahmed bin Ali Hajar as deputy chairman.
According to the decision, Mohamed Mahmoud al-Mahmoud, Abdullah Omar al-Bakri and Yahya Butti al-Nuaimi will be members of the committee.
The decision has called upon Muslims in the country to sight the crescent moon and to “take the testimony of the persons it trusts and what was proven in neighbouring countries.”
The committee is to issue a public statement to declare its decision regarding the sighting of the crescent moon of the months of Ramadan and Shawwal and to notify the authorities.
