QNB announces tie-up with PayPal

QNB has partnered with PayPal, a leading global online payment service provider, to give the bank’s retail customers more options for secured online purchases and other premium services in future.
Announcing the deal yesterday, Ali Rashid al-Mohannadi, chief operating officer and executive general manager, QNB, said: “PayPal is trusted throughout the world and it enables millions of consumers to shop safely and conveniently online and through their mobile phones each day.”
The tie-up is considered a first of its kind for a bank in the Middle East and North African (Mena) region.
Al-Mohannadi said the agreement would allow QNB customers to enjoy greater flexibility and security while making online purchases with PayPal.
As of today, QNB’s retail customers could create a PayPal account through QNB website, link to it their payment card and immediately start using PayPal to shop safely and conveniently online through millions of websites worldwide.
QNB’s retail customers are also able top up their own PayPal accounts through their QNB current account and could send money via PayPal to any e-mail address through the QNB website.
Elias Ghanem, managing director for PayPal (Mena region), said: “QNB is the leading bank in Qatar and we are truly excited by signing our first bank partnership in the Mena region with a strong bank as the QNB. This partnership is a major milestone on PayPal’s exciting journey in the Mena region, to enable global e-commerce across the region by offering consumers and merchants a safe and easy way to buy and sell online and through their smart phones.”
“With 66% of consumers in the Mena region using the Internet to search for products and services and only one-third of them making online purchases, the offline to online opportunity is significant,” added Ghanem.
To celebrate the launch of PayPal in Qatar, a number of special offers will be available exclusively for QNB customers using PayPal. Offers also include discounts from MarkaVIP.com and Aramex ShopandShip.com.
QNB customers could also take advantage of free delivery on purchases from ASOS.com, deals from eBay.com and DealExtreme.com.
