Open discussion with companies help in easing the custom clearance processes.

Air Customs dept holds meeting with companies

Some 50 representatives of different companies have attended an open forum with the Air Customs Department (ACD) to discuss related issues at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Customs (GDC).
ACD acting director Khalid Ahmed al-Kaabi met  a number of directors and representatives of customs clearance companies for a free dialogue.
The companies were allowed to voice their concerns on the process, which would help in easing the process of clearance for both sides.
The meeting aimed at improving and developing co-operation and addressing the common issues of concern.
The remarks of both sides on the customs clearance processes were heard.
“Such open meetings are good for the interests of work. We should work closely with customs clearance companies and hold periodical meetings to get to know their views. In addition, we hear the complaints of the clients and try to resolve them and develop the work environment,” pointed out al-Kaabi.
He added that GDC enjoys good relationship with customs clearance companies, stressing that officials at all levels in ACD are open to any suggestions and complaints regarding work issues.
He also said that daily nature of such work requires flexibility and keenness to enforce the law simultaneously from both parties.
The meeting discussed various issues related to customs clearance, inspection, and price estimation processes.
Most participants praised the 24 hour work schedule of GDS, which has considerably increased the flow of goods into the country.
However, they raised their concern about the procedure of food clearance and delay of work at night shifts.
Other issues related to the information on the source of goods and the single window system were also discussed at the meeting.
