The Ras Laffan Industrial City Community (RLIC) Outreach Programme and Community Policing organised Eid al-Fitr celebrations at Al Thakhira and Al Kabaan youth centres from August 9 to 11, with the support of the Management of Industrial Cities.
The celebrations held under the theme “Eid Sa’eed” sought to engage the northern communities of Qatar – particularly families and children - in various activities.
The highlights of the Al Thakhira Youth Centre programme included the Egyptian circus and the traditional skirt dance, Tannorah. In addition, there were numerous recreational activities and distribution of prizes during the competitions. “The programme was different this year and we are delighted that more than 1,000 people participated in it. We would like to thank the Management of Industrial Cities through the RLIC Community Outreach Programme for the outstanding efforts and constant communication with the northern communities as well as for their participation in various events throughout the year,” said Ali Lahdan al-Mohannadi, director of Al Thakhira Youth Centre.
Al Arda, the local folk dance, was a prime attraction at the celebrations of Al Kabaan Youth Centre. The other highlights included honouring the elderly and a wide range of attractions for children. From cartoon characters and carnival games to a soap playground and other activities, the kids had a lot to choose from. Prizes were also distributed among the children who participated in different competitions organised during the festivities. “This is a beautiful gesture by the Management of Industrial Cities through the RLIC Community Outreach Programme. We are grateful for the support provided to the youth centres by organising such events,” said Mubarak al-Kabaan, director of Al Kabaan Youth Centre.
The community outreach programme is an initiative of Ras Laffan Industrial City to communicate and collaborate with the communities living in northern Qatar. “Such festivities are a confirmation of the spirit of partnership and help strengthen the relationship between different sections of the community in order to sustain the Qatari heritage,” said a spokesperson for the programme.
