Police solve three murders involving hired killers
Three contract killings were solved last week.
Chennai-based neurosurgeon S D Subbiah died on September 15 after he was attacked outside a private hospital at Abhiramapuram last week.
Subbiah was walking towards his car when two men attacked and left him bleeding on the road. The attack was recorded by surveillance cameras installed in a building on the opposite side.
Police learnt that Subbiah was involved in a dispute with his relatives in Kanyakumari over property worth Rs20bn.
Two days after the attack, two relatives of Subbiah surrendered and confessed to have hired the killers.
In Madurai, two men were murdered in broad daylight by contract killers of rival gangs last week.
Pambu Pandi, the brother-in-law of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam politician V K Gurusamy was murdered at East Marret street by henchmen of financier Mayilmurugan. Two days later, Mayilmurugan was murdered similarly at Munichalai road.
Police have arrested Gurusamy’s son and others.
Court orders reinstatement of employee
A disabled state transport employee who lost his job due to medical complications after surgery, has been ordered to be reinstated by the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court.
R Thiayagarajan, 54, of Cumbum in Theni district, joined Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) in 1991 as bus conductor. He underwent spinal surgery in 2012 for a nervous complaint that left his neck immobile.
The TNSTC dismissed him in early 2013 stating his prolonged absence from work as a reason, and without providing him an alternative job.
Based on Thiayagarajan’s petition, the court ordered TNSTC to reinstate him and also reimburse his salary.
Justice Nagamuthu said “be human, act with at least sympathy,” in his verdict. The judge further directed that he be given an alternative light job with continuity of service.
Wife held for posting morphed photos online
A 25-year-old woman, upset by her husband’s decision to file for divorce, posted offensive morphed pictures of her mother-in-law and sister-in-law online.
Mohanapriya and her father Anand Kodiraj who helped her, were both arrested in Chennai last week by the cyber crime police.
Mohanapriya, an MBA graduate from West Bengal, married Pradeep, a Bangalore-based software, engineer through a matrimonial website. The couple fell out over Mohanapriya’s excessive use of social networking sites, which led to Pradeep filing for divorce.
Irked by this, Mohanapriya first posted morphed pictures of her husband with other girls, but she was let off with a warning.
However her latest prank, which was spotted by her father-in-law, led to her arrest and the removal of the offending pictures.
Man murders niece after marriage rebuff
A 30-year-old mechanical engineer stabbed his niece outside her college and slit her throat in front of stunned public at Panruti in Cuddalore district last week.
Later Tamilselvam surrendered to police and told them that he had killed Mahalakshmi because she had refused his marriage proposal.
Tamilselvam is Mahalakshmi’s uncle and works in Singapore. He told the police that he had been financing her education and loved her since childhood.
Four of Mahalakshmi’s classmates fainted at the spot, while many passersby stoned Tamilselvam.
