The Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) and The Institute of Internal Auditors in Qatar (IIAQ) recently hosted a seminar to review some of the latest research findings at the QFIS building in the Education City.
The event brought together top internal auditors from Islamic and conventional banks as well as researchers and academics under the topic of ‘Common Body of Knowledge in Internal Auditing: State-of-the-Art and the Future Direction’.
Award-winning researcher, Dr Mohamed J Abdolmohammadi, of Bentley University, Waltham, USA, presented findings from a global study conducted by IIA Research Foundation which sought to broaden the understanding of how internal auditing is practised throughout the world and to analyse the state of the internal audit profession.
Principal researcher on the study, Dr Abdolmohammadi, said, “As a profession internal audit is evolving and valued, it is believed vital to an organisation’s health and well-being and the characteristics of internal audit activity will place more emphasis on corporate governance, enterprise risk, strategic reviews and ethics audit.”
Dr Abdolmohammadi also emphasised the value of achieving higher compliance with standards, expanding university level education in internal auditing and intensive post university training. The seminar was an opportunity for both institutions to highlight their research and publications that tackle economic and financial issues and to introduce new practices of internal auditing based on the research findings of the IIA.
The Centre for Islamic Economics and Finance at QFIS is engaged in studying current phenomena and issues that are vital to economic and financial development both regionally and globally. It practises and reinforces versatile research methods and techniques, and organises international conferences and seminars that strategically integrate the Islamic thought and practices to help in the re-structuring of the contemporary systems from diverse perspectives.
