HE the Minister of Economy and Trade, Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani, with Qatar Primary Materials Co (QPMC) officials, during a visit to the Sahara wet sand plant (Al Karana) of QPMC. The visit aimed to take stock of the washed sand reserve and strategic plans to guarantee the availability of such raw materials in adequate quantities to meet the increasing demand for major infrastructure projects. QPMC was established consequent to an Emiri decree in August 2006 to fulfil the needs of the local market in terms of building raw materials and stabilising their prices. The plant produces more than 4mn litres of treated water a day and 1,200 tonnes of washed sand an hour. The Minister toured the facility, including the storage areas and production lines, and was introduced to the different phases of production. He also held a meeting with the QPMC officials to discuss the company’s strategies.
