A Qatargas team comprising nationals from Onshore Operations was recognised for “Best team performance” among all participating teams at an LNG process training programme held recently in Japan. The three-week training programme was organised by JCCP (Japan Cooperation Centre, Petroleum).  Oil and gas professionals from some 10 countries participated in the programme, which focused on technologies related to the refining, liquefaction, transportation, storage and utilisation of LNG and involved lectures and site visits to industrial facilities. As part of the programme, attendees were required to deliver case studies relating to the technical challenges in their own facilities.  The Qatargas Group made a presentation on the process technology challenge of addressing the increase of acid gas concentration in the feed gas to Qatargas 1 facilities, by delivering a new Acid Gas Removal Unit (AGR4) and new Sulphur Recovery Unit (SRU4) to remove the expected increase in H2S and CO2 content in order to maintain the current production plateau of Qatargas 1. Japan Cooperation Centre, Petroleum (JCCP) was set up in November 1981 to promote technical co-operation and personnel exchanges with the oil-producing countries in the downstream sectors of the oil industry. Its major activities include programmes to accept overseas technical and administrative staff for training, to dispatch Japanese experts abroad, to sponsor international conferences and seminars and to conduct studies and research.
