‘Family Fridays’ at Katara Sheikh Abdullah exhibition

The Qatar Museums Authority and the National Museum of Qatar are hosting Family Fridays at the ongoing Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim al-Thani: A Leader’s Legacy exhibition in QMA Gallery, Building 10 at Katara.

Throughout the duration of the exhibition, workshops inspired by the exhibition will be taking place every Friday from 4pm to 7pm, free to all children aged 3-12 and their families.

Tomorrow is the day to make one’s own customised sunglasses and view the wonderful skyline of present-day Doha as part of Super Skylines. You can also design Doha in the future, and create your own future city in a box.

The workshops are being led by the National Museum of Qatar as part of the exhibition with the support of principal partner ExxonMobil.

Organised in three phases, the exhibition brings to life Qatar’s development beginning with Sheikh Abdullah’s succession to power in 1913 and the start of the modern State of Qatar. The stories then move to Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim’s Old Palace - the history of the Palace itself, its occupancy by the ruling family, geographical location in the Fareej al-Sulatah (or Sharq) of Doha, and its importance as the centre of rule in Qatar.

Moving into modern times, the exhibition showcases the transition of what was a former palace to Qatar’s first museum in 1975, and subsequently displays the ambitious plans of QMA to develop the old palace site into the new National Museum of Qatar.
