ExxonMobil Qatar emphasises importance of safety

ExxonMobil Qatar joint interest technical manager Anthony Pryde addressing the Forum.

ExxonMobil Qatar emphasised the importance of safety leadership and culture and the link to sustainable performance during Qatar Petroleum’s 2nd Operational Safety Challenges Forum yesterday.
ExxonMobil Qatar Joint Interest technical manager Anthony Pryde used ExxonMobil’s experience in developing a culture of safety excellence to help inform participants about effective ways to integrate safety into an organisation’s culture.
“Effective safety leadership is critical to driving a strong safety culture,” said Pryde. “Through our participation in this forum, we hope to share ExxonMobil’s experience in developing a culture of safety excellence with Qatar Petroleum and other operators in the country so they can benefit from what we have learned over the years.”
Pryde described the leadership programmes offered by ExxonMobil, which train employees at all levels.
He also emphasised the commitment ExxonMobil makes to grow safety leaders throughout the organisation, as well as integrate safety leadership principles into training, work processes and career development.
With the motto ‘Nobody gets hurt’, ExxonMobil is among oil and gas industry leaders in its safety record. At ExxonMobil, safety is a value in which appropriate technology and equipment are provided, consistent safe work practices and processes are implemented and employees are motivated and able to work safely. Furthermore, Pryde pointed out how ExxonMobil’s evolving safety focus has resulted in a continual decline in its incident rate.
ExxonMobil has a systematic and disciplined approach to safety, and new ways of increasing safety are continually explored. Its safety philosophy lies in three uncompromising pursuits: exceptional technology, rigorous standards and an unwavering commitment to best-practice safety procedures. Its risk assessment system, Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS), measures and mitigates safety, security, health and environment risks to people, the environment and communities in which ExxonMobil operates.
