Sports facilities in Qatar have received high marks from survey participants.

QOC survey receives wide public response

A survey on sports facilities and entertainment services has received “overwhelming” response from citizens and residents.

In the survey, jointly conducted by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, the country’s sports facilities have been described as the best by respondents.

A majority of respondents – both citizens and residents – have also praised facilities with integrated sport complexes, such as Al Sadd, Al Gharrafa, Al Rayyan, and Al Arabi, which are equipped to host both team games (like football, volleyball, basketball and handball) and individual sports (such as table tennis, athletics and swimming).

The QOC is keen to establish integrated sports complexes besides public parks such as Barzan and Simaisma.

Hamad Hassan al-Jassim, an employee of Doha Municipality and a sports enthusiast, hailed the sporting facilities and entertainment services in the country and described Doha as the “capital of world sports”.

He also said the public and families enjoy their leisure time in these facilities and parks.

Abdulrahman Mahmoud, a medical laboratory specialist at Mesaimeer Health Centre, was impressed with the public parks and sporting facilities provided by the QOC across the country.

He also lauded the availability of different services at sports clubs and complexes.

Based on the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 to create a healthy community at both the physical and psychological levels and in line with its responsibility of promoting sports and recreation in the State, the QOC has established multiple sports facilities and entertainment services across the country.

The questionnaire is aimed at measuring services availability and quality provided to the public to enable the sport authorities concerned to address any shortage and bring in facilities that best fit their needs.

The questionnaire is part of the QOC’s strategy in co-operation with other authorities to implement the sports sector strategy (2011-2016), which is derived from the National Development Strategy 2011-2016 to meet the final goals of Qatar National Vision 2030’s three pillars: increasing community participation in sports, improving planning for community and elite sports facilities, and improving talent development and athlete development pathway.

Those who want to participate can visit the QOC website – www.olympic.qa – or the official website of the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics – www.qsa.gov.qa/recreationalfacilities.
