The nomination period has been opened for the WISE (World Innovation Summit for Education) Prize for Education, now in its fourth year. |
The WISE Prize is the first global recognition of an individual or team for an outstanding contribution to education.
The honour recognises an inspiring and visionary approach as well as a proven track record of achievement in education at any level and in any sector - public, private or voluntary.
Commenting on the opening of the nomination period, HE Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali al-Thani, chairman of WISE, Qatar Foundation, said: “There are many extraordinary people in the world who are transforming the lives of individuals and communities through their engagement in education. The WISE Prize for Education is a unique opportunity to celebrate the highest achievers. We are looking forward to discovering more education innovators and to identifying a worthy 2014 Laureate.”
Nominations can be made by individuals or institutions - including schools, international organisations and private companies - from anywhere in the world — including Qatar.
Submissions must be made through the WISE website www.wiseprizeforeducation.org by March 31. Nominations will be reviewed by an international committee of education experts and the final selection will be made by a high-level Jury of distinguished individuals chaired by HE Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali al-Thani.
The Laureate, who receives $500,000 will be announced before one of the largest gatherings of education innovators at the sixth World Innovation Summit for Education, taking place November 4-6, 2014, in Doha.
The WISE Prize has so far been bestowed on Vicky Colbert of Colombia. Sir Fazle Hasan Abed of Bangladesh, and Dr Madhav Chavan of India.
The WISE was established by Qatar Foundation in 2009 under the patronage of its Chairperson, HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. WISE is an international, multi-sectoral platform for creative thinking, debate and purposeful action that contributes to building the future of education through innovation.
WISE is an ongoing initiative and a global reference in new approaches to education. Through both the annual Summit and a range of continuing programs, WISE is promoting collaboration and building the future of education.
