The Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has announced the implementation of three new medical projects in Jerusalem valued at QR2.3mn.

The projects are to be located at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society’s hospital in Jerusalem and include the restoration and rehabilitation of the Department of Postnatal and Premature Babies, the installation of a fire-fighting network with an early alarm system as well as the purchase of custom-made ambulances.

The announcement was made at the headquarters of  the Palestinian Red Crescent Society in Jerusalem, attended by Minister for Jerusalem Affairs Adnan Husseini,  Deputy Minister of Health Dr Anan al-Masri,  Palestinian Red Crescent Society president Dr Younis Khatib and director of the Representative Office of Qatar Red Crescent in the West Bank, Mona Ghanem.

Ghanem, who represented QRC at the ceremony, said the “good relations between the Qatari and Palestinian national Red Crescent societies are reflected in their  humanitarian missions in the area, particularly in providing support for the Palestinian people”.

The initiatives, she said, were aimed at improving health services for the residents of Jerusalem.

The restoration and rehabilitation of the postnatal and premature babies’ department is valued at $411,000 and aims to improve the medical services provided to the Palestinian people. The hospital witnesses 3,300 births a year, as well as around 750 surgeries.
