Renault’s 100% electric micro car Twizy arrives

French multinational auto giant Renault has come up with a “truly innovative” 100% electric micro vehicle, Twizy, which had its Middle East debut yesterday at Qatar Motor Show 2014.
Speaking at the company’s pavilion at the expo, Renault Middle East managing director Peyman Kargan said: “Renault has always been a leading company in terms of innovation and Twizy brings real innovation to the Middle East’s customers.” The motor show is being held at Qatar National Convention Centre.
Renault is the first car-maker to market an electric car in the Middle East. The Twizy prices will start from QR77,900 with a two-year warranty package up to 50,000km.
Hisham al-Mana, chairman and managing director of Renault’s exclusive distributor in Qatar, Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana, said: “We are proud to launch the 100% electric Twizy with Renault in Qatar as a first for the Middle East region. In Qatar, awareness and consciousness of environmental issues are growing fast and we are seeing more and more interest in electric vehicles. With its outstanding and unique design, I have no doubt that the Renault Twizy will attract a lot of attention in our market.”
Powered entirely by electricity, the Renault Twizy has an urban-cycle range of approximately 85km. The batteries are charged via an extendible cable located behind the Renault logo at the front of the car. A full charge takes around 3½ hours using the normal household 220-240v domestic supply (three-pin plug). The lithium-ion batteries that power the electric motor are mounted beneath the seats to lower the centre of gravity. The Twizy’s booking will open in Qatar from March 1 at Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana Company.
The Renault group has been making cars since 1898. Today, it is an international multi-brand group, selling more than 2.6mn vehicles in 128 countries in 2013 and employing nearly 128,000 people. The group is harnessing its international development and the complementary fit of its three brands, Renault, Dacia and Renault Samsung Motors, together with electric vehicles, the alliance with Nissan and
its partnerships with Avtovaz and Daimler.
