Côte d’Ivoire international footballer Souleymane ‘Sol’ Bamba, who plays for Turkish Super Lig Club Trabzonspor, is currently recuperating at Aspetar following treatment for an ankle injury he sustained.
Praising the care he has received at Aspetar, Bamba said: “Aspetar is a fantastic sports medicine hospital that caters to the specific injuries and subsequent needs of athletes, and it does this all while maintaining a high level of service.”
The defender underwent surgery to his ankle that has plagued the footballer since the start of the season. Bamba is now receiving comprehensive rehabilitation treatment at Aspetar, and is hopeful of to returning to the pitch in time for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil this summer.
“Brazil will be our third World Cup tournament and we are in group C, which is not an easy one to be in,” Bamba said. “All the teams in this group have a good chance to qualify for the knockout phase and I want to reassure my country that I will be ready to play this summer.”
Bamba’s treatment at Aspetar comes as part of an agreement signed between the hospital and the Ivory Coast Football Association last month. The partnership stipulates that Aspetar will provide top-class orthopaedic medical support on and off the pitch, leading up to and during the FIFA World Cup finals, beginning in June.
Aspetar is committed to helping athletes realise their sporting potential and regularly provides treatment to international stars and sporting professionals.
Since its establishment in 2007, the facility has attracted an array of international athletes and football clubs including, American sprinter and Olympic gold medalist, Justin Gatlin and French footballer Bacary Sagna. Players from Europe’s reigning football champions Bayern Munich have also been treated at Aspetar.
Aspetar is a world leading specialised orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital, and the first of this kind in the Middle East. Since 2007, the hospital has provided top-level comprehensive medical treatment to all athletes in a state-of-the-art facility that sets new standards internationally.
In 2013, Aspetar became the first GCC (Gulf Co-operation Council) Sports medicine Reference Centre in the Middle East. Aspetar is a member–organisation of Aspire Zone Foundation, Qatar’s innovative sports and healthy lifestyle destination.
