Stretch of Corniche Street to be temporarily closed

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a temporary closure on Corniche Street, from Sheraton roundabout to the Post Office signal, for nine days.

This is being done in order to complete the conversion of Sheraton roundabout into a signal-controlled junction.

The closure will come into effect from the night of Thursday-Friday (February 27-28) and continue until the night of Saturday-Sunday (March 8-9).

Commuters will be required to use alternative roads during this period and follow the directions and road signs. Traffic from Dafna roundabout and City Center going towards Sheraton will have to go right to Al-Funduq Street and use alternative roads to reach Corniche Street, or take Majlis Al-Taawon Street (as indicated on the attached map).

Commuters from Majlis Al-Taawon Street will have to take Omar Al Mukhtar Street and then go right towards Dafna roundabout. Also, commuters on Al-Funduq Street going towards Sheraton roundabout will have to go right in front of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and follow the directional signs to reach Corniche Street.

The project consists of three-lane dual carriageways on Corniche Street, including three lanes towards City Center and three lanes towards Omar Al Mukhtar Street, in addition to side roads to the right of signals.

The work also includes creating a signallised pedestrian crossing between the two intersections to access the new Qatar International Exhibition Centre and other government buildings located in the area without having to make a U-turn from the Al Dafna intersection.
