Aspetar partnered with the prestigious fifth Advanced Course in Knee Surgery held recently in Val d’Isère, France. |
The event saw international speakers and delegates participate in a range of lectures, video sessions, case studies, roundtables and interactive discussions designed to further current concepts and guidelines for daily knee treatment and care.
Through this partnership, Aspetar has once again demonstrated its commitment to becoming a leader in sports medicine by 2015, the organisation has said in a statement.
A number of Aspetar experts were present at the event, including Dr Nebojsa Popovic, orthopaedic surgeon; Dr Emad Almusa, consultant radiologist; and Dr Juan Manuel Alonso, sports medicine physician. Additionally, chief of surgery at Aspetar Dr Philippe Landreau was co-director of the summit.
“Knee pain and injuries are extremely common in athletes and we at Aspetar recognise the importance of discussing the latest approaches to surgery. Bringing together leading experts from across the globe, including France, the UK, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Italy and Australia, the conference served as a platform to engage some of the world’s greatest minds in the field of knee surgery,” said Dr Landreau.
The comprehensive sessions were divided into eight topics. The topics, specifically chosen for this year’s summit, included “imaging for knee surgeons”, “how to manage menisci lesions”, “update on ACL reconstruction” and “athlete’s knee overuse”.
Dr Khalifa al-Kuwari, director-general of Aspetar, said: “This conference occurs biennially and is now in its fifth edition. This year, we were the main partners of the summit. Part of Aspetar’s mandate is to further sports medicine research and education, so it was fantastic being able to join hands with this prestigious conference once again.”
Aspetar regularly hosts and attends international conferences, bringing together world-class practitioners in the field. Previous highlights include presenting a forum at the London 2012 Olympics, hosting an Altitude Training and Team Sports Conference designed to enhance performance levels among team sport players, and Aspetar’s Current Concepts Series, a wide-ranging initiative that explores and researches sports-related injuries.
Aspetar is a member-organisation of Aspire Zone Foundation, Qatar’s innovative sports and healthy lifestyle destination.
