A government complex where the services of seven ministries are available to the public has been opened in Wakrah as part of an initiative to provide better facilities to Qatar residents.
The opening on Monday was attended by HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah, HE the Minister of Justice Dr Hassan Lahdan al-Muhannadi and HE the Minister of Administrative Development Dr Eisa Saad al-Jaffaly al-Nuaimi.
The complex offers services of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, the Ministry of Business and Trade, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Administrative Development, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Environment. Besides, there is a service centre of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa).
Al-Nuaimi said the services complex in Wakrah was opened on the directives of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser al-Thani. He said that this was part of the second phase of a programme to open such centres in different parts of the country.
In the first stage, service centres were opened at Umm-Salal and Al Zubara.
However, at the centres opened in the second phase, services of more ministries are included. The third stage will see opening of services complexes in Shahaniya, the Industrial Area, Pearl-Qatar and Al Shamal. These centres will provide the services of all ministries.
During the fourth phase of the scheme, steps will be taken to reduce the time taken to render services and to provide them through the government’s electronic platforms and smart phones.
As regards the timetable for the next stages, al-Nuaimi said that a work plan had been charted out but no specific timeframe had been determined “as this depends on the readiness of the workplaces and the establishment of systems; however, all these arrangements will be completed within a year”.
Al-Nuaimi said the staff manning these centres had been trained “to serve the visitors efficiently”. A decision on opening of more centres will be taken after conducting a survey of the existing ones, local Arabic daily Arrayah said.
