Officials from Ooredoo and Cisco have signed a strategic participant agreement to showcase next generation technology solutions for the upcoming 2014 International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Telecom World Conference in Qatar.
The event will be held on December 17 at the Qatar National Convention Centre and bring together influential global leaders from the ICT industry who aim to drive industry success and address critical socio-economic challenges.
The strategic agreement was signed by Ooredoo Qatar CEO Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani and Cisco’s Chris Dedicoat, president, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia (EMEAR).
Al-Thani said: “We are delighted to welcome Cisco as key participant for the 2014 ITU Conference in Doha,” which is expected to gather some 90,000 visitors.
He added that the agreement “highlights the importance of the event, not just for Qatar, but for the Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) industry as a whole. The world’s leaders in communications are set to come to Doha to outline new innovations that will transform people’s lives.”
Cisco Middle East and Africa VP Mike Weston said: “The selection of Qatar as host nation for this year’s ITU Conference is opportune, given the increasingly dynamic role it is playing in the Middle East technology arena. Weston predicted that “2014 and beyond will bring hugely influential and constructive technology growth throughout the Mena region enabling unprecedented opportunities that will benefit both business and society as a whole.”
“We are proud to work with Ooredoo to bring the latest innovations both to Qatar and the wider Mena region,” he added.
Ooredoo also showcased a host of “Smart City” and “Smart Lifestyle” innovations during the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, and aims to engage a number of leading partners like Cisco in Qatar “to support its efforts to make Qatar one of the world’s best-connected nations.”
Many of these partners will discuss their plans at the upcoming ITU Conference, which is poised to be “one of the largest and most substantial communication events to be held in the Mena region this decade.”
