CBSE had so far allowed only recount of the marks. This year, CBSE will allow revaluation in seven subjects and the facility will be extended to other subjects in the coming examinations, according to
The Times of India.

A student will be allowed to seek revaluation of only a specified number of answers. The board will announce the modalities of the initiatives before the declaration of results.

Revaluation will be available in English, Hindi, physics, chemistry, mathematics, political science and economics.

Students, who apply for revaluation of answer sheets and verification of marks, will be provided with a digital copy of the valuated answer sheets. They can then apply for revaluation for a stipulated number of
answers per subject.

The provision of verification of marks and grades and obtaining photocopy of the evaluated answer sheets will also continue. But in place of photocopies, candidates who apply will get a digitised version of the answer sheets.

CBSE plans to deliver the answer sheets to students through email if the number of applicants for revaluation is small. Otherwise they will be allowed for download from the board’s website. CBSE is in the process of finalising the mode of delivery of the digitised answer sheets.

Many of the teachers and students in Qatar have expressed their happiness over the new initiative.

Many students said they will avail the new facility if needed and can apply for revaluation as the valuation process is becoming more transparent. They also hoped that the same facility will be extended to other subjects soon.

One of the teachers of a leading school said that CBSE has approved a long standing request of students and teachers. “Many times, students and their parents blame the teachers if they get lower than expected marks. This move will enable the students to get a proper idea about their response to the examinations and will give them an opportunity to understand the drawbacks. Moreover, this will also help the teachers to know if there are any loopholes in their teaching and
valuation methods.”

Another teacher said that it would bring more credibility and accountability to the evaluation process. “It is a welcome move. So far, there was no way for the students to know the exact process of evaluation. Now the teachers who are engaged in the evaluation of the answer sheets will be accountable if there are major variations in the marks when the answer
papers are revaluated.”

One student from Ideal Indian School, who is appearing for class 12, said the CBSE decision on revaluation is a great
advantage for the students.

“We have seen many of our senior friends getting lower marks than expected in some subjects. But they were never able to get their papers revaluated. This had even affected many as their plans for higher studies were spoiled by lower marks.”

Another student pointed out that many times students get low marks, especially in subjects such as English. “We have seen many studious ones affected due to discrepancies in evaluation. Now at least they have the option to go for revaluation.”
