The second edition of the ‘Workers Cup’ football tournament began last week, with 24 teams in fray. The annual event was formally inaugurated on Friday, the final of which will be played on April 25 with a grand prize of 18,000 Qatari riyals ($5,000/3,623 euros) up for grabs. The players, mostly from the Asian and African countries, are all migrant workers employed by construction companies, said Adil Ahmed, managing director of organisers QSports. “We wanted to bring a programme that the workers can actually call their own,” Ahmed said.
