Katara will be turned into ‘global cultural, tourism destination through the year’

Katara - the Cultural Village will be transformed into a global cultural and tourism destination throughout the year once the next stage of development projects are completed, general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti said yesterday.

“Many commercial complexes, shopping malls and entertainment places are among the new projects, which are being implemented in line with Qatar National Vision 2030,” he explained in a statement.

A commercial complex, a commercial centre for children scheduled to open in early 2017, the Katara Fitness Centre and the Katara Hills project featuring 383 residential units are among the upcoming attractions.

The Katara Fitness Centre is coming up on the coast of the Cultural Village facing The Pearl-Qatar, whereas the commercial complex is located on the west side of Katara, decorated with a fountain in the middle of the courtyard, in addition to basement parking.

The two-storey commercial centre for children will include a number of shops with high-end international brands, offices, apartments and a unique shopping centre.

The Katara Hills project will comprise 133 luxury villas with four to nine bedrooms and 250 apartments with two to four bedrooms.

Katara has also established a Sport Village (I Go Katara) in the Entertainment City (former Aladdin’s Kingdom), built on an area of over 60,000sqm and featuring game areas for paintball, football, basketball and tennis, in addition to 29 different games.

The investment section of Katara includes markets and world-class restaurants and cafes – all with a sea view.
