Matchless disappointment

Dear Sir,

An Indian school offered a chance for its students to watch the recent Emiri Cup final played at the Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday. It said free bus round trips will be arranged for those wanting to watch the match.

My son, studying in the sixth standard, reached the school by 2:30pm eagerly looking forward to watch an exciting final. But he and many other students could not enter the stadium after waiting for more than two hours in the sun.

The teacher in charge of the students, I am told, left the scene but managed to enter the stadium with his family after leaving the children on their own.

My son returned home, dejected and disappointed, around 9.30pm.

He could not attend the school next day because of severe pain in his legs, apparently from standing too long outside the stadium.

School managements should take care of students when they arrange trips like these.

Painting campaign

Dear Sir,

The city of Barcelona in Spain has chosen its 10 most universal paintings, with great success.  I suggest that Qatar can also run a similar campaign to choose the 10 most iconic paintings that are permanently in the state.

It would be a great way to promote Qatar’s cultural heritage.

End this war on education

Dear Sir,

The article, “The war on education” by Gordon Brown , Britain’s former premier (Gulf Times, May 14), dealt with an important topic.

I am a teacher  and many of my girl students from poor and middle-class families have come up in their lives because of their good schooling. They needed motivation and inspiration from teachers.

The Boko Haram militants, who have kidnapped dozens of girl students, say  they are against Western education. In fact, they are against any kind of education for girls in Nigeria as they know that the educated women of Nigeria will not let their sons become terrorists.

The Nigerian government should make all efforts to rescue the girls at the earliest and prevent such an incident from happening in the future by wiping out terrorism from the nation.

Message from Indian election

Dear Sir,

India has voted right, sending a clear message that it no longer tolerates political dynastic rule in the country.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come to power after a decade in wilderness, with a resounding victory that has crushed the Congress.

Narendra Modi, a strong leader, will now take India along the right path. It will be for the good of all Indians.
