Qatar Charity contest raises QR3.6mn for Syrian refugees

Qatar Charity’s (QC) Competitors contest has raised QR3.6mn for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq.
The second edition of the contest was launched via the QC website with the involvement of 28 Qatari celebrities, who visited Jordan at the end of April and were briefed on the condition of Syrian refugees.
The group distributed aid during the course of several new projects in the areas of shelter, food, productive families and education, at a cost of around QR4.5mn.
They also visited the Zaatari camp and a number of other camps near the Syria-Jordan border, as well as the homes of the injured and orphans, to whom they gave food parcels and hygiene kits.
The participants were Talal al-Kuwari, Asmaa Saad al-Kaabi, Mohamed Jaham al-Kuwari, Talal al-Tamimi, Ali Ateeq al-Abdullah, Saeed Mohamed al-Nabit, Khaled Abu Moza, Shahira Shahwani, Rashid Majid al-Kuwari, Abdul Aziz al-Zaman, Ibrahim Khalfan, Mohamed Hassan al-Gharib, Hassan al-Saa’i, Dr Ilham Badr al-Saada, Mohsen Fahad al-Hajri, Fatima al-Emadi, Adel Hasan Khalaf, Maha al-Subaie, Nasser Mubarak al-Khulaifi, Salem Hamad Daiya, Ibrahim al-Khaja, Hani Hamad al-Marri, Ahmed Salem al-Bakri, Masha’il Subai’i, Mohamed Ali al-Marri, Mohamed Habs Huwail, Nasser Nahar al-Shammari and Hanan al-Fayad.
The participants competed to collect the largest sum of money via the link, http://portal.qcharity.net/qc/CompetitorsCompetition/homePage.aspx. “The money raised will be allocated for the implementation of special projects for Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries in the areas of housing, education, food and development for the benefit of 8,000 people,” said Salem al-Adhba, QC public relations manager.
“The contest is approaching its QR4.511mn target set at the start of the initiative, with around 80% of the amount raised to date, which reflects the overwhelming response — particularly impressive due to the fact that the last edition took place in the month of Ramadan,” he added.
He urged the Qatari community to support the competition, which he said served a noble humanitarian goal.Donations can be made on the website as well as at QC branches, designated malls and commercial complexes.
Donations via the website can be made by credit cards, bank transfer or bank deposit. They can also be made at collection points by cheque, with the payment being entered into the system through smart devices. Donations can be made by text messages as well, wherein each participant has a designated code. QC had signed an agreement with Ooredoo, which is the official sponsor of the ‘Competitors’ contest.
The contest aims to engage the Qatari society in humanitarian work, invest the energies of young people and mobilise support for QC projects. This edition will run until the end of May. It also seeks to highlight the technical ability of charitable and humanitarian work in general, and that of QC in particular, and work on exploiting it more effectively and increasing community solidarity.
This announcement was made at a ceremony attended by Yousef bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, CEO of QC; Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad al-Thani, chief of new business at Ooredoo; Saad Hodaifi, director of Al Jazeera Children’s Channels, Hassan bin Rabia al-Kuwari, director of corporate communications at Qatar Stars League; participants of the Competitors 2 campaign and a number of officials and QC ambassadors.
A sponsorship agreement for the official version of the second ‘Competitors’ campaign was also signed by the QC CEO and Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad at the ceremony, with a QR200,000 donation also being made by the Qatar Stars League Foundation to be used for QC projects for the benefit of Syrian refugees.
