Kuwait’s first privately-owned telecommunications company Wataniya Telecom has adopted the new Ooredoo brand, continuing the momentum of the Qatari telecom giant’s global brand rollout.
The transformation of the brand was announced at a ceremony at the company’s new Kuwait City headquarters by Abdulaziz Fakhroo, general manager and CEO, Ooredoo in Kuwait.
Ooredoo’s operation in Kuwait is the latest to adopt the new brand, joining those in Qatar, Algeria, the Maldives, Myanmar, and Tunisia. Following the global launch at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in February 2013, Ooredoo has successfully rolled out the new brand across the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia.
The transformation into Ooredoo has seen these companies do far more than just change their name – each has launched a new wave of services and initiatives designed to promote human growth in their respective countries.
For Ooredoo in Kuwait, this will include the launch of a range of life-enhancing consumer and business-to-business services, including Kuwait’s first e-commerce site for purchasing electronics.
Ooredoo Group CEO Dr Nasser Marafih said, “Kuwait is a hub for ICT innovation, and in a highly-competitive market we aim to provide the best technology and customer experience. Make data access available for all over our leading mobile broadband networks will promote human growth, with initiatives across e-commerce and social development enhancing people’s daily lives.”
Fakhroo said, “We are very proud to become part of a community-focused global brand that has a strong sense of responsibility towards the markets where our customers live and work. In Kuwait, we will be known not just by the things we do, but how we do them and a unique customer experience that will deliver tangible results.”
Supporting the life-enhancing initiatives of Ooredoo in Kuwait are 3G and 4G LTE networks, whose performance has been ranked as one of the best in the world by Omnitele, thanks to a recent $400mn network modernisation programme with Huawei and Ericsson.
In addition, as a community-based company, Ooredoo in Kuwait is supporting the Kuwait Blind Association’s braille publisher Bayt Abdullah and will launch a sports arena with three indoor soccer fields.
