Qatar Racing Ltd’s Hot Streak (Iffraaj) booked his ticket for Royal Ascot when winning the Temple Stakes (Gr2) at Haydock, UK on Saturday. He beat Pearl Secret (Compton Place) by half a length, completing a hugely satisfying one-two for Qatar Racing, with Kingsgate Native (Mujadil), who was not helped by the very soft ground, a further three lengths back in third.
Hot Streak was one of the three-year-olds taking on their elders in this Temple Stakes. The last three-year-old to win this race was Fleeting Spirit (Invincible Spirit), in 2008, who went on to finish third in the King’s Stand Stakes (Gr1) behind Equiano. Hot Streak should now head to Royal Ascot for the King’s Stand Stakes.
“We’ve always thought the world of him. We know there’s more improvement from him and it’s all for Royal Ascot now. He’s an awesome horse. He’s the best I’ve trained, without a shadow of a doubt”, declared Kevin Ryan, trainer of Hot Streak. “He is everything you’d want in a good horse. He is just a wonderful horse to train. He’s not ground-dependant, he’s just one of those real good horses that can cope with everything.”
Hot Streak was bought for 42,000 GNS by David Redvers at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale. He comes from the family of Height of Fashion, the dam of Nayef, Nashwan and Unfuwain.
Purr Along back with a win
Purr Along (Mount Nelson) won on her first start in her new colours of Qatar Racing. The filly was previously trained by Willie Muir for HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani before the change at the end of 2013. Purr Along was bought for 1,000,000 GNS by David Redvers at Tattersalls last December. Purr Along, who is now trained by Johnny Murtagh, made a winning reappearance on Saturday at the Curragh, in the Lanwades Stud Stakes (Gr3). She had not passed the post in front since the Prix du Calvados - Haras des Capucines (Gr3), in 2012.
“We’ve always thought a lot of her, she came with a big reputation,” explained Johnny Murtagh. “She was ready to run earlier in the year and was going really well in the spring. She had a few little hold-ups and we had to be patient and it paid off.”
Purr Along should now head to Royal Ascot for the Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Gr2 – previously the Windsor Forest Stakes).
