A British Chamber of Commerce is expected to be opened in Doha this autumn, Gareth O’Brien, Director of Trade & Investment, British embassy, Doha, has said.
The UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is developing British Centres for Business across the GCC and the Doha chamber will be opened as part of this strategy, O’Brien said while addressing a packed UK Trade & Investment conference held in London last week.
“We have found an office for the British Chamber and we are recruiting staff. The role of the chamber is to help Small &Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to do business in Qatar. We will be supporting British SMEs in the long term; this work will complement what UKTI is already doing. Basically, the chamber will take on some of our responsibilities. In the future it will provide chargeable services and run trade missions and build up its own membership,” he explained.
Gibbons explained that under the Centres for Business concept companies will have the opportunity to sit in an incubator for a 12 month period.
They will be exposed to networking organisations and afforded the chance to evaluate the market and make considered decisions about setting up for business.
