Qatar Rail achieves 6mn man-hours incident-free record

Qatar Rail has achieved an “unprecedented” 6mn work hours without a lost time injury (LTI) at the Doha Metro Green Line Project site.

The feat was achieved by Qatar Rail’s construction contractors led by Austrian firm PORR and its joint venture partners Saudi Bin Laden Group and HBK Contracting.

“This significant achievement is a clear indicator of Qatar Rail’s commitment that safety remains a core value,” said Qatar Rail’s managing director and chairman of the executive committee Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Turki al-Subaie.

Al-Subaie, together with Qatar Rail chief executive officer Saad Ahmed al-Muhannadi, visited the Al Messila Station site at the Green Line Project for a status and progress report on the construction work.

To mark the achievement, Qatar Rail honoured contractors and workers of the Green Line Project for their efforts during the past year.

Al-Subaie awarded memorandum trophies to Jassim al-Ansari, the Green Line project director, and Guenther Heilmayer, project director for PSH joint venture of Doha Metro led by PORR, Bin Laden Group, and HBK.

He also lauded the alliance of companies executing the Green Line Project “for their efforts to maintain the work environment and meet the international standards for quality, health, safety, environment, and security at the worksites.”

“The clear standards that Qatar Rail has adopted since the beginning of the Doha Metro Project had a positive impact on the work’s environment as it gave the company the ability to complete the work safely thanks to the concerted efforts and commitment of everyone,” al-Subaie said.

He described the achievement at the Doha Metro Green Line Project as “a great example.”

“At Qatar Rail, our culture believes that ‘an incident-free workplace is possible.’ The company holds continuous specialised workshops for workers and employees to promote safety measures, in addition to regular trainings on leadership and supervision skills,” al-Subaie added.

Al-Muhannadi said Qatar Rail has accomplished many achievements in the fields of quality and HSE (health, safety and environment). He added that the strategy of “occupational safety” implemented in Qatar Rail’s projects “contributes to avoiding incidents of any kind.”

Al-Ansari noted that the feat was due to compliance with international standards observed at Qatar Rail. He said contractors of the Green Line Project implemented the standards and raised the reputation of the companies working at the Green Line project, which extends from the Msheireb Station East to the West Doha Station.

The line is divided into two contracts. The main contract extends underground from Msheireb to the area of conversion next to the Al Rayyan Stadium.
