Qatar Charity has sent a relief convoy for refugees from Central Africa taking refuge on the border with Chad.
The convoy contained food and non-food items for 1,000 families at a cost of QR500,000.
The food baskets contained 25kg rice, 250gm sugar, 5lt oil and a month’s supply of milk, in addition to non-food items including a jerry can, a carpet and a plastic sheet.
This convoy complements QC’s previous efforts in the area and was implemented in co-operation with the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Chad.
The aid was delivered in a special ceremony held in Qouri Camp for the displaced, in the presence of Chad authorities and representatives of international organisations concerned with the situation of refugees.
In a speech during the ceremony, the governor of the city expressed his deepest gratitude to the State of Qatar, HH the Emir, government and people, and praised the co-operation of QC with international organisations and the government in support of refugees.
QC has been a pioneer in providing urgent relief to the displaced from the Central African to Chad after the massacres of Muslims which have forced hundreds of thousands to flee to neighbouring countries, particularly Chad. These refugees are without shelter, food or healthcare, prompting the government of Chad to call for international assistance.
QC was the first organisation to provide relief to Central African Muslim refugees in Chad and has carried out extensive charitable projects for their relief over a six months period, targeting 20,000 people.
The projects cover shelter needs, such as tents, blankets and plastic containers, food, water and personal hygiene items at a cost of around QR13mn.
The projects ultimately seek to provide a total of 4,000 tents, 2,000 blankets, and other non-food items for 4,000 people, three month’s food aid for 12,000 people, personal hygiene items for 12,000 people and potable water for 20,000.
A QC delegation began implementation of the first phase of the project, which involved the distribution of relief assistance to 1,000 refugee families in the Deuba Camp in the city of Sar on the Chadian border with the Central African Republic.
QC is still receiving donations for the relief of refugees from the Central African country through its branches, via collectors in commercial complexes, at its website qcharity.com/Africa and at Barwa Bank to account number IBANQA60BRWA000000000.
Donations can also be made via text message by texting 92632 to donate QR50, to 92642 to donate QR100, to 92428 to donate QR500 and to 92429 to donate QR1,000.

Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when you are saying farewell to those that have left a positive impression. That was the case earlier this month when Canada hosted Mexico in a friendly at BC Place stadium in Vancouver.
