Conflict did not involve UCC workers
Dear Sir,
In reference to the report “Workers, guards injured after clash at project site” (Gulf Times, June 26). UrbaCon Trading and Contracting (UCC) would like to clarify the following:
l UCC is not aware of any contact attempt made by Gulf Times.
lUCC workers are not made to work during the mid-day summer time break (11.30am-3pm). As per the law, this is applicable to workers engaged in the external works.
lWorkers are never prevented from using the toilets. UCC has established substantial logistic facilities to cover the needs of all employees on site.
lThe conflict did not involve UCC employees and arose as certain subcontractors’ resources were stopping their work earlier than the scheduled break time, the security guards were recording this, which the labourers took offence to and the labourers then attacked the guards. The incident involved a relatively small number of the workers, not more than 200, compared to the circa 7,200 UCC workers engaged on the project, and was controlled and calmed down quickly with the support of the Doha police.
lUCC would emphasise that it fully respects the summer working hours, Ramadan hours and all Qatar Labour Law requirements, and also ensure that their workforce are paid on time.

Long wait for World Cup package
Dear Sir,
I sought World Cup package on my Mozaic TV service on June 11 by calling 111.
Until yesterday no one had come to fix the service.
I have called 111 and 115 many times, lodged a complaint with the Customer Care Department and talked to supervisors at least twice since June 11. Each time they repeat the phrase, “Within the next two days someone from installation team will contact you”.
But nothing has been happening. World Cup matches are about to finish. Hope someone responsible from Ooredoo will take immediate action. My mobile number is 55663814.
