The objects include few gold items and an exquisite pearl necklace belonging to the collection of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim al-Thani.

The donated objects will be on view under the donors’ names as part of the upcoming NMoQ’s collection, along with many other artefacts that highlight the modern history of Qatar and tell the story of its people.

The last donation to the NMoQ made by Sheikha Amna bint Hassan al-Thani was a cupboard from the era of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim. It was showcased at the ‘Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim al-Thani - A Leader’s Legacy’ exhibition in December 2013 at QM Gallery, Katara.     

HE Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad al-Thani, chairperson, QM said: “The National Museum of Qatar is very happy to receive donations from members of the community. These objects will be preserved and shared with the public in order to ensure that our heritage and culture remain long after us. We thank all who contributed and continue to do so through the donation of objects, knowledge or oral histories. It is because of your efforts that the NMoQ will achieve success when it opens in 2016.”

Qatar Museums announced in March 2014 the second Mal Lawal exhibition, which will take place from November 2014 to January 2015 at Qatar International Exhibition Centre. The exhibition will reflect on the personal collections of collectors across Qatar and the GCC.

Visual treasures displayed will include all categories of rare collections, such as artefacts, manuscripts, weapons, Islamic collections, old maps, ethnographic/heritage items, antiques, jewellery, clothing and accessories. Collectors are invited to participate by contributing pieces they feel reflect the region’s heritage and culture and works that speak of day-to-day activity.
