Besides, 100% of the excavation works, 98% of the structure of underground stations and 100% of a bridge that goes over the Al Khor highway have also been completed.

HE the Minister of Transport Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti was briefed on these and other aspects of the project during his recent visit to the work sites of the LRT project in Lusail.

HE the Minister was accompanied by senior Qatar Rail officials, including managing director Abdulla Abdulaziz al-Subaie, CEO Saad al-Muhannadi and deputy CEO Hamad al-Bishri.

Al-Subaie briefed the minister on the progress of the project, explaining that the LRT project consists of four operating lines, 33km of network and 37 stations (including 10 underground).

The LRT will also be connected to the Doha Metro Red Line North via two main stations - Lusail Marina/The Pearl and Lusail’s main station. The connectivity will facilitate easy transportation from and into Lusail city.

“To date, more than 7km of the construction of tunnels has been completed and the main civil works for seven underground stations have also been achieved,” said al-Subaie.

The LRT is one of the most important ventures benefiting real estate development projects in Lusail City and the project is progressing as scheduled.

“At Qatar Rail, we consider that the LRT is pivotal for the transport infrastructure in the country and it reflects the promising vision of Qatar,” added al-Subaie. “We have so far completed 100% of the excavation works, 98% of the structure of underground stations for the Lusail project and 100% of the bridge that crosses over the Al Khor highway.”

“Work is under way to implement the final phase of the project, which includes the rolling stock systems,” said al-Subaie. HE the Minister inspected the LRT tunnels and went along 4km of underground tracks and four underground stations.

The visit included the inspection of the viaduct that goes over the Al Khor highway. The bridge will allow the LRT network to join the train storage and maintenance facilities in front of the Lusail city entrance on the western side of the highway.

“The next stage of the project will see the delivery of civil works of the 37 railway stations, internal architecture, mechanical and electrical equipment, tracks, power supply, maintenance facilities and trains,” said al-Muhannadi.

The Lusail Light Railway Transit System will provide an efficient and comfortable commuting system for the inhabitants of Lusail city when the mixed community development is completed.

At the end of his visit, HE the Minister praised the efforts of the construction teams and the progress achieved so far.

He urged the team to intensify its efforts for this vital facility for its speedy completion.
