Doha CC’s Tanveer receives Man of the Match award.
Doha CC posted a 37-run win over Ramaco thanks to some impressive batting performance by Tanveer in the West End Park Ramadan Tournament at the West End Park Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The tournament is being held under the patronage of Qatar Olympic Committee secretary general HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani.
Doha CC won the toss and elected to bat posting a total of169 for 9, with Tanveer scoring 73 and Khuraam scoring 24. For Ramaco, Farukh scalped 3 wickets giving away only 24 runs, and Arshad took a wicket.
Ramaco’s chase was led by Tahreeb (41) and Rasheel (28) but the team eventually fell short by 37 runs, bundling out for 132.
Khuraam was impressive with the ball too claiming three wickets for 17 runs and Abbas claimed two wickets.
Tanveer was adjudged Man of the Match for his performance with the bat and two catches during Ramaco’s chase.
In the second match of the day, Kerala XI beat Bangladesh CC by 58 runs. Aneesh (60) and Siraj (55) did the bulk of the scoring for Kerala XI, who chose to bat first after winning the toss. For Bangladesh CC Shihab and Rashid claimed two wickets each.
In reply, Bangladesh CC could only put up 111 for 9 in 20 overs. Ifti (32) and Rony (18) were the main contributors. For Kerala XI, Thalayan took three wickets and Faisal two.
Aneesh was presented with the Man of the Match award.
The West End Park Ramadan Tournament will see 12 teams play for the winners’ prize of QR 50,000. The runners-up are set to get QR 25,000. Each team is allowed four overseas players. There are two groups of six teams each, with eight teams qualifying to the quarter-final stages, which begin on Monday, July 21.
Matches begin daily at 7:45pm and entry is free for the public.
