Cables of condolences

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has sent a cable of condolences to Malaysian  King Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah on the victims of the Malaysian plane crash in east Ukraine on Thursday.  HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani also sent a cable of condolences to the Malaysian king.

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has offered his condolences to Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki on the death of soldiers in a terrorist attack in Mount Chaambi, wishing speedy recovery to those injured. During a telephone conversation, they also reviewed bilateral relations and ways to enhance them. 

 

Ties reviewed

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Sudan President Omar al-Bashir reviewed, over a phone call, bilateral relations and ways to develop them. They also discussed a set of regional and international issues, particularly developments in the Gaza Strip.

Fire breaks out at Orthopaedics Centre

A small fire broke out in the parking lot of the Hamad Medical Corporation’s Orthopaedics Centre (previously housing  the School Health section) in the old Salata neighbourhood on Thursday.

In a press release, HMC said that the fire was contained “in a record time”, adding that investigations were underway.

The building was evacuated immediately after the fire broke out, the release said. “None of the patients was hurt but some of the centre’s staff were slightly injured and received treatment at Hamad General Hospital,” it said.

Katara exhibition

HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari yesterday opened at Qatar Photographic Society (QPS) premises in Katara ‘the Georgia and its Neighbours’ photography exhibition. Georgia Ambassador Ekaterine Meiering-Mikadze was present.

The exhibition, which was held as part of Ramadan activities in co-operation with the Georgian embassy, features 66 photographs by Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky. The photographs are related to the social life, economic conditions, buildings in Georgia during the period 1905 to 1915.

Al-Kuwari praised Qatar Photographic Society’s role in presenting friendly countries through exhibitions, saying that summer season’s activities would start immediately after Ramadan, continuing through September’s end.

QPS vice president Abdurrahman al-Obeidan said that the preparation for the exhibition took about six months, referring that Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky was selected as the main event by the Georgian embassy and Library of Congress.
