A meeting has been held between Qatari and Chinese delegations in Beijing as part of preparations for the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, to be hosted in Doha in April 2015.
The Qatari delegation was headed by the chairman of the organising committee, Maj Gen Dr Abdullah Yusuf al-Mal, while the Chinese side was led by the director-general of legislative and foreign affairs in the Chinese ministry of justice.
The meeting was also attended by Dr Sultan Salmeen al-Mansouri, Qatar’s ambassador to China; Dimitri Vlassis, chief of the Corruption and Economic Crime Branch, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime; and officials from the Chinese ministries of Justice, security and foreign affairs, and the supreme court.
During the meeting, the participants discussed key topics to be addressed at the congress, including the integration of crime prevention and criminal justice into the United Nations agenda in order to address social and economic challenges and strengthen the rule of law, both at the national and international levels, together with public participation.
