A delegation led by Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat) joined industry players at the 5th Annual Gulf Petrochemical and Chemical Association (GPCA) Fertiliser Convention to represent Qatar’s growing downstream industry.

The GPCA convention, now in its fifth year, was held in Dubai from September 16 to 18. The Muntajat delegation participated in discussions of emerging trends in the petrochemical industry with a focus on the role of fertilisers in food security.

Exhibiting for the first time at the convention, Muntajat showcased Qatar’s portfolio of fertiliser products that includes Urea, Ammonia, Aqueous Ammonia, and Urea Formaldehyde Concentrate (UFC). In addition, the company strengthened its presence at the event by taking on sponsorship opportunities and joining various awareness activities.

Muntajat CEO Abdulrahman Ali al-Abdulla said, “The GPCA Fertiliser Convention presented us with the ideal platform to discuss the issue of food security and the rise in fertiliser demand. Our participation at this year’s event reinforced Qatar’s position in the chemical and petrochemical industry and highlighted the value proposition of Qatar’s downstream products to global food production.”

Al-Abdulla said the daily demand for fertiliser products is on the rise. As per the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the world’s population has increased near fourfold in the past 100 years.

“Muntajat understands the key role that our fertiliser products play in food security and we are well positioned to capitalise on opportunities to meet the growing demand of developing countries that strive to increase their food production capacity,” al-Abdulla said.

Muntajat has the exclusive rights to market, sell, and distribute the high-quality fertilisers produced in Qatar by Qafco. Established in 1969, Qafco has more than 40 years of experience in the industry and is one of the world’s largest producers of Urea and Ammonia.

Since the start of its commercial operation in early 2013, Muntajat managed to ship around 14mn tonnes of chemicals, polymers, and fertilisers to more than 120 countries around the world.

In its second year of operation, Muntajat is focused on expanding its footprint by establishing and growing its global marketing network. Today, Muntajat has opened five international marketing offices in Amman, Jordan; Melbourne, Australia; Cape Town, South Africa; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Istanbul, Turkey, and plans to open around 11 more offices by year-end.

Al-Sada named as IQ board chairman

Industries Qatar (IQ) issued a brief statement yesterday regarding changes by Qatar Petroleum to IQ’s board of directors and executive management in line with its authority under IQ’s Articles of Association.

With effect from September 17, HE Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohammed bin Saleh al-Sada will function as the board chairman and HE Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani as the vice-chairman.

The board of directors also includes HE Minister of Finance Ali Sherif al-Emadi; HE Dr Ibrahim al-Ibrahim; Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi and Nasser Khalil al-Jaidah as members, while Saad Sherida al-Kaabi as a member and managing director.

Industries Qatar was incorporated as a Qatari joint stock company in 2003. It was formed with QP as its sole founding shareholder.
