Ooredoo yesterday announced that it has provided free speed upgrades on its two entry-level home fibre plans, providing customers subscribing to these plans with faster Internet speeds and greater reliability on their current packages.

The speed increase was rolled-out over the Eid al-Adha break to all Ooredoo Fibre customers on the 1Mbps and 10Mbps home fibre plans.

With the upgrade, all 1Mbps plan customers will see a ten time speed increase to 10Mbps, while existing 10Mbps customers will be boosted to 25Mbps, free of charge.

With the speed boost Ooredoo Home Fibre customers across Qatar will now enjoy a range of instant benefits, including short to no buffering on popular content, and the ability to stream and download High Definition content at faster speeds.

The speed upgrade is free and permanent for home fibre broadband and Mozaic TV subscribers who are connected to the Ooredoo Fibre network.

Fatima Sultan al-Kuwari, director, Community & Public Relations, Ooredoo, said: “Ooredoo’s investment in a nationwide Fibre network was designed to support the Qatar National Vision 2030 to boost the knowledge-based economy, and we continue to enhance the levels of speed and service provided to our customers.”

“This upgrade is one of the biggest enhancements for Fibre Customers in recent months, touching the lives of hundreds of thousands of customers and contributing to our goal of making Qatar one of the best-connected countries in the world,” she added.

The Ooredoo Fibre network is available across Qatar, with more than 175,000 homes and businesses currently benefiting from super-fast Internet and next generation services.

Since its launch in 2011, the Fibre network has not only transformed the broadband Internet market but also the digital entertainment industry in Qatar, enabling customers to enjoy Next Generation Mozaic TV with high-definition programming and a range of advanced features.

Customers who want to join the “Fibre revolution,” can view the fibre availability map on Ooredoo’s website. The map allows customers to check if they are in a fibre-ready “Green” area and shows customers how to apply for a fibre upgrade.

Since its launch Ooredoo Fibre has positioned the country as a “Leading Fibre Nation” in a global study based on figures from the Fibre to the Home (FTTH) Council and the second highest level of household broadband of any developing country after Korea, according to the most recent UN Broadband Commission report.

The global report “National Fibre Strategies: National economic imperative or just another private industry task?” by Arthur D Little (ADL) also estimated that Qatar had one of the fastest nationwide Fibre roll-outs in the world since the start of the Ooredoo deployment.
